My name is shirin Ebadi, I am Nobel Prize laureate and human rights campaigner, on December 21,2008 I was briefly taken into custody as Iranian authorities raided and indefinitely shut down two of my offices in Tehran.
Iran authorities never gave me an explanation for the crackdown, and I was later released, there was no arrest in the raid but the office remain closed. The close offices belong to two non - governmental organizations funded by my Nobel Peace Prize earnings: the Centre for participation in Clearing Mine Areas, which helps victims of landmines in Iran ; and Defenders of Human Rights Centre, founded five years ago to report human right violation in Iran, defend political prisoners, and support families of those prisoners.
I know Iranian authorities has no written justification for the raid which I described as illegal . The Collective activities of the human rights activities in Iran have angered the Iranian authorities so much that they have illegal ordered the closing down of the two NGOs. I won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for my human rights works, making me the first Iranian to receive the honour, I am one of the most prominent Muslim women in the world and serve as the president of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre. In August 2006 Iranian government informed me that the agency was illegal and vowed to arrest those who continued to work there. Of course me and the other members of the center do not intend to shut down the centre and we shall continue our activities, the centre has operated for over two years in Tehran is a member of the International Federation for Human Right and has also has be awarded a human rights prize by Human Rights National Commission in France.
